If you’re still doubting that the future of libraries is in e-books, here’s a good example that illustrates this trend. Some libraries in the UK are reporting that e-book lending are creatin a surge in library members. The Lutton Libraries for one have experienced more in interest coming from library patrons asking to download e-books. Some users have been emailing the library asking if they can join and start borrowing e-books.

Borrowing e-books have worked wonders to these patrons since they don’t have to go to the library to borrow the e-books. They just access a specific site, download the e-books to their e-book readers and start using them. They don’t even have to remember circulation due date since the e-books automatically renders unreadable in 14 days, the number of days allowed for the use of the e-books they borrowed.

Will this trend continue? Are we looking at finally the demise of the printed books and the printed library collection?
