Kindle, Nook Prices Lowered

Earlier this morning Barnes and Noble’s Nook, the original version just got a price cut. Current price is now only $199 from the previous $259. Then Amazon suddenly followed and lowered the price of the original Amazon Kindle from $259 to $199.

In addition, Barnes and Noble has also release a new Wi-Fi only version of the Nook. With a market price of $149, it is definitely a great buy.

Those are huge price cut. Makes you think if the popularity of the iPad has something to do with this.

Barnes & Noble’s Nook Available Now on Best Buy

There you go folks. If the iPad doesn’t appeal to you as an e-book reader, you might want to pick up the Barnes & Noble Nook instead. And no, you don’t have to go to the nearest B&N brick and mortar store, just check out Best Buy online and can score one Nook for yourself.

Best Buy is now offering Nook for $259.99 and promises to deliver the Nook within a day or two.

Best Buy to Sell Barnes & Noble Nook Starting April 18

Ready for some more e-reader style battle? It looks like other e-book reader makers have felt the threat being imposed by the Apple iPad. So much so that what used to be an exclusive distribution of their devices is slowly being transferred to retail stores.

Take the case of the Barnes and Noble Nook. Right now, you can only get this either online or via B&N’s bookstore. You’ll notice this if you search for Nook on a site search engine. But come April 18, if this report is true, you will soon be able to get a nook from Best Buy stores.

Engadget managed to get a shot of Best Buy’s inventory system and found an entry for the Nook.

Barnes & Noble Finally Solves Nook Supply Issue

It seems that Barnes and Noble has finally resolved their supply problem of the Nook e-reader as reports had it that Nook units will be finally arriving on B&N’s brick-and-mortar stores. So, if you’ve been wanting to buy Nook but don’t want to do it online, on Wednesday you can finally grab one for yourself.

But since it is not announced how many units of Nook the Barnes and Noble stores would be getting, you’d be better off going to the nearest outlet on Wednesday. Hopefully, there would be enough supplies of Nook to last every demand for the said e-book reader. And hopefully also, Barnes and Noble would finally able to supply more in the future.

The Kindle badly needs a competition and Nook is the closest rival it could get.

Nook eReader Gets a Software Update

Nook has been out for a couple of days only and already B&N has issued its first major software upgrade to address early issues encountered by early adopters. So if you’re among those lucky ones who received Nook recently, version 1.1 is already available here if you prefer to upgrade your Nook’s software manually.

According to the Nook’s Help and Support page here are the issues addressed by the software upgrade:

Improved page turn and formatting of downloaded eBooks
Improved startup time for My Library, The Daily, and Settings
Immediate launch of the reader upon choosing Select from The Daily and My Library, for books and subscription issues that have already been downloaded; otherwise the book detail page is displayed, with Download as the first option.
Exclusive Barnes & Noble in-store content and promotions: when a customer enters a store, your nook will recognize the location and display the Barnes & Noble logo and welcome message, as well as special articles and offers.
Elimination of the page skipping that has occurred in certain PDB eBooks
Status bar (battery indicator, signal indicator, and clock) is displayed in reader
Overall system improvements

While Engadget noticed the following:

Page updating on the E Ink display does seem to be a tiny bit faster. Nothing mindblowing, but a little bit better.
B&N has fixed the page numbering issues. There is now a clear number and progress bar along the bottom of the screen.
Overall the navigation and color screen loading times seem improved. The experience is definitely faster — even scrolling through book covers seems a bit improved.
There is still pausing and lag in the UI. This isn’t a sea change, but it’s clear they’ve cleaned some elements up.

Early Nook Hands-on and Reviews

Some early adopters of the Nook or should I say tech bloggers in particular are now publishing their early impressions/reviews of Barnes & Noble’s much awaited ereader.

Technologizer got an early hands-on of the Nook and said that:

The Nook isn’t a Kindle killer–not in this initial form, at least. For all its pleasing touches, intriguing innovations, and clear advantages over the Kindle, it feels like a less-than-perfectly-polished 1.0 product, just like Amazon’s first e-reader did a couple of years ago.

It was also noted that the Nook’s user interface feels kind of sluggish and still has some usability gaffers and bugs on its features including the ebook lending period of Nook. More details here.

Engadget also published a more detailed review and observes that:

In the end, the Nook is an intriguing product launched by a powerful force in the world of booksellers, but the initial offering feels long on promises and short on delivery. With the right software revisions, the Nook could be a tsunami, but as it stands right now, it’s only a mild swell.

Early Buyers of Nook Given a $10 B&N Gift Certificate

Those who are lucky enough to have pre-ordered Nook during its first run have a little consolation from Barnes & Noble for waiting that long to get their ereader – a whooping $10 Gift Certificate which of course they can use to purchase their first ebook from the online store.

Aside from this, reports had it that their Nook will still start arriving on the 9th, so that’s a few more days of waiting. Hopefully, no more glitch happened and Barnes & Noble stay true to their promises. Otherwise, they might be putting the success of their ereader at risk.

Nook is Now Officially the Most Delayed eReader

New orders of Nook starting today will now be getting the units shipped on January 11. There goes everyone’s hope of making it as a nice Christmas presents to their love ones this coming Holiday Season.

Either demand for Nooks is really that high or Barnes and Noble just don’t have ample stocks to compensate for this demand.

So, while Amazon is declaring its Kindle as the #1 Bestselling product in their store, Barnes and Noble is short of announcing that its Nook is the most delayed ereader in the world.

Hopefully, things get better in 2010 for Nook’s supply.

In-Store Shipment of Barnes and Noble Nook Delayed Again

Looks like those of you who have been anticipating the arrival of Nook ereaders in Barnes and Noble’s brick and mortar stores would have to wait for another week again. Barnes and Noble is reportedly prioritizing the shipment of pre-orders so those who were wishing to get the Nook via in-store purchase won’t be able to do so on the promised Dec 7 date.

Well, just hope that Barnes and Noble ships the Nook on Dec. 14, just in time for Chistmas – that is if you’re planning to give the Nook to your loved ones as a Christmas present.

Nook Sold Out, No More Shipment Until January

So it would seem that Barnes & Noble may have rushed up on announcing its Nook eReader. As soon as the words were out and B&N started accepting pre-orders, users got too excited and started placing their orders. But the problem might be the fact that supplies are not yet fully manufactured. Hence the immediate shortage in supply even before Nook started shipping.

It is official, Nook won’t ship orders placed between now until, well probably until they’ve stocked up on new units.

Earlier Sony also announced that pre-orders for its latest Digital Edition eReader may have also exceed expectations hence, the short in supply this coming Holiday Season.

So that leaves Amazon with the Kindle all alone in the market in time for the Holiday Shopping Rush.
